Welcome to Calling America: Give us your stories, poems, and essays, where you can listen to emerging writers, actors, and musicians. These 21 short audio clips give a gritty glimpse of lives both known and imagined.
Calling America grew out of a 14-part radio series produced by the National Writing Project (NWP) a few years ago. Called Rural Voices Radio, it features students and teachers in 13 states reading their original poems, stories, and essays about place.
It has been broadcast throughout the United States and shared widely on CDs that teachers use in their writing classes.
If you are a writer, a student or a teacher of writing, please visit this site from time to time. We hope to produce more radio programs and will invite you to submit your latest writing when that time arrives.
Calling America has been developed with support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Writing Project, KUNM in Albuquerque, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, and the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City, Edward Haber, Jeana Francis, and many others. |
